Sock monkeys: A sick obsession or a sock obsession?

Jane models the sock monkey hat I made for her last night, after making several previously for "my humans." I also made the baby afghan pictured. The patterns are from Debbie Stoller's The Happy Hooker: Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet, probably my all-time fave crochet book. Jane also holds another sock monkey motif which I made, hoping to attach it to an off-white, red and brown scarf I am knitting for myself. Trying to learn to knit, that is. Spring is just around the corner, and summer will probably be here before I have anything remotely long enough to serve as a scarf. But, at least the sock monkey applique is ready and waiting.

A friend for Blythe

This is Gladys, and although technically she has nothing to do with this Blythe blog, she's sort of in the same kitsch-y genre and she took many hours to construct this weekend since I am not a nimble or trained sew-er. So, I thought I'd post her here....back to Blythe soon. Have some cute outfits to show, and new hair coming for Miss Bunny Velvet-yay!

My Blythe Obsession

My love affair with Blythe only recently begun, having cluelessly missed them during their debuts in 1972 and 2000. I think I first spotted them on Flickr and then quickly made the leap to the This is Blythe forum. Blythes of course made their meteoric rise thanks to the supremely talented Gina Garan and her incredible photographic skills and love for Blythe. Her books and photos are total eye candy.

I started out with Lilly London, a Star Dancer from Tokyo; Maggy, an ADG Princess Parfait brunette from Illinois and Zena, a custom and a surprise gift from a wonderful person. I had some others; then I sold some. Now the bug is back, and I have a few customs as you can see above. The count is getting perilously close to filling Blythe Manor II, my 12-room Blythe size 1:6 Mod-ish dollhouse. I had one of those before recently, and sold everything. I also had a childhood 1:12 metal dollhouse with Petite Princess furniture, which I pitched. Ack.

But for now, all these girlz really like to do is shop, change clothes, get their hair and nails done, get their pictures taken, pour over Flickr Blythe groups and Blythe blogs and websites. They talk on their cell a lot, but they do keep their room pretty clean. Occasionally, they do art and cook. Oh yeah, and shop on ebay and look for Re-ment. We hang out on Plastic Paradise, too. It's a doll's life!
